Chemical Peels in Portland, OR
What are Chemical Peels?
A chemical peel is a skin care treatment that uses a customized chemical solution to remove the top layers of the skin. There are typically three different kinds of chemical peels: light, medium, and deep. They differ based on their depth.
Chemical peels can address a number of concerns, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Hyperpigmentation
- Dryness
- Uneven skin tone
- Uneven skin texture
At Dr. Bohley Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a few different types of chemical peels, including VI Peel Advanced, VI Peel Precision Plus, and VI Peel Purify.
VI Peel Advanced
VI Peel Advanced is a medium peel that was specifically designed to address visible signs of aging, including wrinkles, fine lines, and skin laxity concerns. It consists of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, vitamin C, and a blend of minerals. By boosting collagen production, this chemical peel can soften lines and wrinkles, smooth uneven skin texture, and erase pigmentation issues.
VI Peel Precision Plus
VI Peel Precision Plus is a medium-depth peel that was created to address pigmentation concerns. It contains lighten and brightening boosters to erase sun damage, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and melasma. The formula consists of trichloroacetic acid (TCA),
retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, vitamin C, hydroquinone, kojic acid, and hydrocortisone.
VI Peel Purify
The VI Peel Purify is a medium peel that is perfect for those struggling with acne. It works by balancing the skin, eliminating bacteria that cause breakouts, and opening and cleaning out the pores. This formula consists of benzoyl peroxide, trichloroacetic acid, retinoic acid, phenol, salicylic acid, kojic acid, and vitamin C.
Am I A Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?
Most light to medium peels are good for just about anyone, but those with a history of abnormal scarring, certain skin conditions, on certain medications, or who can’t stay out of the sun as they heal should likely consider another type of treatment.
What is a Chemical Peel Like?
A chemical peel is a relatively straightforward procedure. Your provider will begin by cleansing the skin and then apply the chemical solution. You may feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation, but most patients tolerate it very well. Once the solution has set on the skin, we’ll then apply a neutralizing solution or wash your face. From there, you can return home immediately.
What is Recovery From A Chemical Peel Like?
After your chemical peel, your skin will likely be red, slightly swollen, and tight. Your provider will let you know how best to take care of it as it heals, including wearing sunscreen, cleansing, moisturizing, and avoiding rubbing or scratching the skin. You can use cold compresses to help ease swelling.
Your skin will start to peel after about a week, and you’ll want to avoid picking or peeling it. Allow it to peel naturally.
Over the next week or two, a new layer of skin will develop, leaving you with a more radiant, smoother, and younger-looking complexion.
When Will I See the Results?
You will typically see results after about a week, and your skin will continue to improve over the next weeks and months. The results you see will depend on the type of chemical peel you choose.
